Adding Playable Audio to your DotNetNuke 5 Website
Today, C2IT Consulting was asked by a church hosting client to set up their system so they could upload audio files (sermons, in their case) to their website so visitors could play the files online. Here’s how we got this to work nice and neat in DNN5.
IMPORTANT: HOST UPDATE
Before anything, your host will need to update host settings to allow you to upload .mp3 files (or whatever type of audio you plan to use). MP3s are not allowed by default. Here’s how to do that:
- Go to the Host Settings Page and the Other Settings section

- Add mp3 to the list of allowable uploads.
- Click Update

That’s it as far as the host is concerned. Now you should be able to upload audio using these steps:
- Go to your website
- Log in with an account that can edit content.
- Go to the page you want to edit.
- Click Edit Content
- Type in some text for the audio file you’re going to upload next to a new bullet point, or however you choose to do it.

- Position the cursor after the text, and click the Media Manager link

- Select the Audio folder and then click Upload.

- Click the Select button next to the first file upload box.

- Browse to the MP3 file you want to upload and select it.

- Click Upload and wait for the window to close.
- Make sure the file you uploaded is selected.
- Assuming you don’t want to auto-play the file, Select AutoStart from the properties dropdown on the right and choose No. Also set the Height to 20.

- Click Insert
- Click Save

- That’s it! You now have an audio player right there on the page
